The Best Things to Hear When Things Aren’t Going Your Way

College has definitely been the most fun, yet most stressful time of my life. I have met people who have flipped my world upside down, showing me a depth to friendships that I never previously experienced. I have found girls who I know will be my bridesmaids and forever best friends, building and strengthening my support system. However, I have had times where I feel like all odds are against me. Between a breakup after a 3-year relationship, and a fight with my roommates that led to months of silence, I have carried the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. Luckily, thanks to Pinterest, I have found quotes and advice to get me through the hard times and comfort me, showing me that things will turn out the way they are intended to be. Here are some of my favorite quotes that have constantly reassured me that everything will be great in the end:

“Things didn’t work out because, well, greater things were in the works. It’s so difficult while we’re blind and hurting and don’t know which way is up. But, if you have faith in anything, have faith in the fact that the universe has a beautiful way of straightening things out far better than we ever could. You may not see it today or tomorrow, but you will look back in a few years and be absolutely perplexed and awed by how every little thing added up and brought you somewhere wonderful – or where you always wanted to be. You will be grateful that things didn’t work out the way you once wanted them to.” –Brianna Wiest

“The woman you’re becoming will cost you people, relationships, spaces, and material things. Choose her over everything.” –Unknown

“I was the type of person that held onto things too tight, unable to release my grip, when it no longer felt right. And although it gave me blisters, and my fingers would all ache, I always thought that holding on was worth the pain it takes. I used to think in losing things, I’d lose a part of me too, that I’d slowly become someone my heart no longer knew. Then one day something happened, I dropped what I once held dear, but my soul became much lighter instead of filled with fear. It taught my heart that some things aren’t meant to last for long, they arrive to teach you lessons and then continue on. You don’t have to cling to people who no longer make you smile, or do something you’ve come to hate if it isn’t worth your while. Sometimes the thing you’re fighting for isn’t worth the cost, and not everything you ever lose, is bound to be a loss.” –E.H

“Love yourself. Be clear on how you want to be treated. Know your worth. Always.” –Maryam Hasnaa

“She will carry on with hope and deeply rooted faith that even in these unknowns she is growing while she waits.” –Morgan Harper Nichols
